Sunset on the Cracked Road

As we all drive down the drowsy street
filled with cracked concrete and old, dirty sidewalks,
barred up apartments and old cigarettes
many of which will outlive the people who smoked them
Our cars roadblock us from each other
other than through the window or per carpool
my car is blue, the color that the sky used to be
The blanket over our sky is hazy and fogged
I can see factories with smoke and pollution, adding more gray to the atmosphere
like we need more, hence each vehicle has its own carbon monoxide in their oxygen mixture
but even if the dark night remains, there are still stars
North exerting its power in the sky, holding its place, advocating which many cars can’t do
only some people honk their horns, but the rest are still having to overcome their emotions
the rain on the streets is pouring into the drains, blurring our windshields
open shops lining the road, only a few lit up with lights
we are all just cars on the road, and there will be speed bumps, and potholes
but there are also street lights that can help light the way on your trip through the winding roads
maybe that's as cheesy as the cheeseburgers from that drive-thru McDonalds
but that is life, and we are all driving in it
